WHY IS LEARNING ANOTHER LANGUAGE IMPORTANT FOR CHILDREN?

It's important because...

  • Learning new words in a foreign language reinforces vocabulary in the native language.
  • It achieves and promotes native proficiency.  Children are more likely to speak without an accent.
  • Starting language instruction early is the key to creating and maintaining interest through high school and college.
  • It provides an educational advantage.  Teaching languages and culture in the early years helps children become lifelong learners.
  • An increasingly global market requires knowledge and proficiency in other languages.
  • It translates into increased personal and economic opportunities.  It leads to jobs, travel, education and enrichment.

WHY IS IT FUN?

It's fun because...

  • Music is added to enhance & speed up the learning process.
  • Language instruction is engaging and exciting.
  • Imaginative materials are utilized to promote curiosity and a desire to learn.
  • Sensory activities grab and retain the attention of the learner. Foods, regalia, celebrations and culturally authentic items are introduced.
  • Immediate results are realized through the use of patterns and themes.
  • Learners see themselves succeeding by saying words and phrases and by participating in basic social conversation

WHY IS IT EASY?

It's easy because....

  • Lessons are age appropriate.
  • Children learn...
    • one word at a time
    • one phrase at a time
    • one pattern at a time
    • one theme at a time
... in the same way they learn their native language.
  • It follows children's natural language development. Words are mastered in English and in a foreign language.
  • Each child is introduced to words quickly, with appropriate visual, tactile and oral cues.
  • Materials are designed to stimulate and encourage learning.
  • Cognitive abilities along with small and large motor skills are utilized.  Children sing, play games, dance, move, create art projects, infer, predict and begin to read and write.
  • Learning is done with an array of amusing tasks which are fun, academically sound, evoke curiosity and challenge the learner.

WHY DOES THE TEACHING METHOD MATTER?

It matters because…

  • Learning is a process in which the learner should feel excited by the subject and the teaching.
  • Children have the ability to learn quickly.  They are in an optimal stage of brain and language development.
  • Immersion and partial immersion are the most effective methods of teaching to produce fluent speech.
  • Beginning with gradual immersion we establish a comfortable and safe learning environment.  A daily social routine is tied to weather, dates, months, seasons etc.. and it leads to basic conversations.  TPR (Total Physical Response) is used to vary the learning activities to address different learning styles.  Each thematic unit provides interactions in activities by using visual, oral and tactile clues.
  • Through the use of games, songs and hands-on activities, children are taught with enthusiasm.
  • The natural approach of teaching skills in a new language is fun and exciting for children.  They easily achieve success and feel empowered to speak their new language.
